EMV-compatible Walker Reader Quick Setup Guide

The wait is over, and you now have your new Walker EMV-compatible card reader in hand.

We know that you're eager to use it during your next market day.  Check all the items off the list below to ensure your Walker Reader is ready to go.

  • Update the Mobile Market+ Select app
  • Charge your Walker Reader
  • Connect your Walker Reader to your device
  • Configure the Mobile Market+ Select app


What's in the Box

You'll find the following items in your new Walker Reader's box:

  • EMV-compatible Walker Reader
  • USB to Micro-USB charging cable
  • Additional rubber boot designed for use with iOS devices
  • Lanyard

Update the Mobile Market+ Select app

First thing's first:  if you have not already done so, you will need to download and install the most recent version of the Mobile Market+ Select app.

Charge your Walker Reader

Your Walker Reader has a rechargeable battery.  We recommend that you fully charge it before using it for the first time.  You can connect the USB cable that came with your Walker Reader to a powered USB port on your computer(usually in the back), or you can use the wall unit that came with your MarketLink device.

You will notice a small red light that indicates your Walker Reader is charging.  It will turn green when your Walker Reader is fully charged.

Connect your Walker Reader to your device

Connect your Walker Reader to the headphone jack on your MarketLink device.  Note that your Walker Reader will need to access your MarketLink device's microphone, so be sure to position your reader accordingly.

Configure the Mobile Market+ Select app

The first time you process a transaction using your new Walker Reader, you may be prompted to allow the Mobile Market+ Select app to access your location and the microphone.  You will need to allow this before you can use your Walker Reader to process mobile transactions.

If necessary, please refer to the "Reconfigure Privacy Settings" section of our card reader troubleshooting article to learn how to ensure the Mobile Market+ Select app is ready to accept EMV payments.

It's also a good idea to confirm that the Mobile Market+ Select app is configured for the Walker Reader.  Follow the steps below to learn how to confirm your default reader setting:

  • Login to the Mobile Market+ Select app on your MarketLink device
  • Tap "Settings"
  • Tap "Config Summary"
  • Confirm that the "Audio Reader" label says "Walker"

If the label says "Rambler" instead, follow the steps below:

  • Tap "Audio Reader"
  • Tap "Walker (Swipe w/ EMV slot)

Once you tap Walker, the screen will move back to the Config Summary Screen.

To check the battery percentage on the reader, click on Audio Reader again. The info about the reader will pop up on this screen if the Walker Reader is connected:


If you do not see this information about the reader, it is not communicating with your device. Check the connection to the device, and check the Microphone Settings as well:

  1. Open the "Settings" app from your home screen. 
  2. Tap "Privacy"
  3. Tap "Microphone"
  4. Verify that "MM+ Select" is listed in this section, and that the toggle switch is green, or on.
