If you're a merchant who accepts payments through TotilPay and you're interested in expanding your customer base and increasing sales, you may want to consider adding the ability to accept additional tender types such as SNAP or WIC benefits.
About SNAP
In order to accept SNAP/EBT benefits as payment, you must be approved by the Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) of the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). Once approved, you will be a “SNAP Authorized Retailer”. For more information on becoming a SNAP retailer, click here for information from the USDA. If you are a direct marketing farmer (DMF) or farmers market (FM), you may qualify for a free TotilPay subscription through the MarketLink program's grant.
About WIC
In order to accept eWIC benefits as payment, you must be approved by your state's WIC authority. To learn more about accepting eWIC cards as a retailer or direct marketing farmer, please click here for the Farmers Food Assistance Bureau eWIC State Guide. WIC processing through TotilPay is not available in all states. Please reference the guide to check if your state's WIC benefits are able to be processed via TotilPay.
Please note: retailers and direct marketing farmers may be eligible to accept WIC cards as payment, but farmers markets, as entities, cannot accept eWIC directly.
Adding an additional tender type, such as SNAP or WIC, to your TotilPay account
To add the ability to accept an additional tender type to your TotilPay merchant account, you'll need to contact TotilPay support and provide your approved retailer credentials from the applicable benefits authority.
To add SNAP, you will need to provide a copy of your USDA FNS-issued SNAP Permit.
To add WIC, you will need to provide your WIC authorization number and the name of the WIC authority that provided your authorization.
There is no cost to add a tender type to your TotilPay merchant profile.
Note: WIC processing is currently available for TotilPay on iOS devices only (Apple iPhone or iPad). SNAP processing is available for both iOS and Android operating systems.
Adding an additional tender type in your TotilPay app
Once you have received confirmation from TotilPay Support that an additional tender type has been added to your TotilPay account, you will need to do a full erase and reinstall of your TotilPay app to push the updates to your app. For step-by-step instructions to do this in TotilPay Go, click here. For TotilPay Register, click here.
Please note: The addition of WIC may take significantly longer to download into your app because of your state WIC authority's Approved Product List. Please make sure you are using a strong internet connection during the download.
On your next login, you will see the additional tender type button in your app on this screen:
If you do not see the additional tender type button, please contact TotilPay Support. Be sure to include details about what you need help with so we can better assist you.
